The new year is that one time of year that you can be certain there is a universal recognition of the need to start anew. In most circles you’ll find people of all races, colors and creeds in reflection, creating resolutions, affirmations and possibly even vision boards. Facebook is flooded with invitations to write the vision and make it plain parties. Goodness knows I’ve seen my fair share of them on my timeline and even have one planned for my women’s ministry. However, my hope is that these activities won’t become so common place and exciting that they become something we look forward to doing because we have a great time with our sisters at the party, but the implementation of the things written on the board fall by the wayside come March and never get accomplished. Our vision boards go into a corner or up on a wall, not re-visited to make sure that we’re literally running with the visions we penned.
My prayer is that we will realize just like your cell phone needs a reset every now and then, or a return to the factory settings, so do you. A reset issued by the manufacturer, your Potter, the one with the Master Plan for your life anyway, has a much better guarantee that you will operate at your maximum capacity and potential than one you can create for yourself. The world has its strategies and plans, but we as believers have to be very careful not to adapt their ways as our own. God’s word is very clear in instructing us that if we acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths. This is so key because the Holy Spirit really does act as sort of an on-board GPS system; directing and redirecting, rerouting as necessary when we have either gotten off course or gotten in our own way. The best way to complete the oh so necessary task of resetting, renewing and repositioning is to find yourself in the posture of prayer. Prayer is a one size fits all adjustment for all of the above goals.
The responsibility of the reset, renewal and repositioning is actually that of the Father’s. Our job is to seek his counsel and wisdom regarding all of the aforementioned and wait for His direction as it pertains to each. Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” although a wonderful and inspirational read, may not be the path God has outlined for your life. Sometimes the temptation to get caught up with what those whom we admire are doing can have us on a wrong, although well intentioned path for ourselves.
My advice to you all is to be intentional about carving out the daily or weekly time that we need with the Holy Spirit so that He can unfold for you the ways in which He wishes to Re-set you, Re-new you and Re-position you. After all, He knows the thoughts He has towards you. He knows the expected end that He desires for you. It’s our job to find out what His thoughts are and govern ourselves accordingly and not vice versa. Our prayers must change more frequently from Lord here’s what I’d like for you to do for me, to Lord what is it that you’d like me to do for you? I promise you that in the process of that line of questioning, you’ll find yourself automatically being reset, renewed and re-positioned. And what doesn’t happen automatically, will be downloaded to you as you spend time in the secret place with your manufacturer. So before writing that vision board and before searching out the affirmations you’ll use this year, please go to our Father in prayer. He’s waiting for you there with the 3 R’s sitting right in His presence 😊
Closing Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus thank you that my times and seasons are in your hands. I ask that you consider your plans for me and what you intend to perform through me this year and then apply what I need to my life as I meet you here in my secret closet to seek your resetting, your renewing and your repositioning. Guide me to your perfect & not permissible will for my life in all that I endeavor to do this year and let my 3 R’s be for your glory only, not mine. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen!
